As the second anniversary of the Carr Fire approaches and as fire season begins, the Community Foundation is pleased to update North State residents of recovery efforts accomplished by the generous donations to the Community Disaster Relief Fund. Funds from the Community Disaster Relief Fund have assisted the efforts of the NorCal Community Recovery Team (NorCal CRT), a committee of volunteers directing recovery and rebuilding efforts following the Carr Fire.
The NorCal CRT continues to help survivors of the Carr and Delta Fire and to assist those who lost a home by placing them in new homes. Less than two years after the Carr Fire started, half of the projected homes to be replaced for qualified survivors have been completed. The first stick-built (traditional framed construction) home was finalized in early spring, after beginning construction at the one-year anniversary of the fire. Three other stick-built homes are currently under construction. Eight factory-built homes have been completed and delivered, while four others have been ordered. There are a number of pending orders for additional factory-built homes. NorCal CRT anticipates completing all factory-built orders for qualified survivors by the end of the calendar year.
The NorCal CRT’s Construction Sub-Committee, headed by the Shasta Builder’s Exchange Community Fund together with their network of partners in the local construction industry, and volunteers from organizations such as California Heritage Youth Build Academy (CHYBA) have helped make this success possible.
Community Foundation CEO, Kerry Caranci states, “We are proud of the long-term vision for this fund and the endurance of our partners to reach this point of rebuilding and recovery. The Community Foundation has been, and continues to be, supportive of the housing needs of the survivors. As significant progress and milestones continue to be met on our path to full recovery for those we serve, our gratitude for all who contributed to fire relief is boundless.”
As Shasta County’s only long-term recovery fund, the Community Foundation and its partners are committed to play a part in the important transitional role required for mid and long-term recovery support. To date, grants from the Community Disaster Relief Fund total $2,665,077. An itemized report on all grant distributions appears on the Community Foundation’s website at https://www.shastarcf.org/funds/cdrf.
