Medical Workforce Development Fund
The late Dr. Charles Capp and his wife, Sally, both held careers in medicine in Shasta County. Dr. Capp worked as an internal medicine physician. Sally pioneered as one of the original flight nurses in this area. Together they have made a profound and lasting impact on the future of healthcare through their generous donation of initial seed funding for the Medical Workforce Development Fund. Their visionary support demonstrates a deep commitment to strengthening our medical community and ensuring that aspiring healthcare professionals with local ties have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. By investing in education and workforce development, Dr. and Mrs. Capp have helped to build a healthier tomorrow for generations to come.
PURPOSE: to support Medical Workforce Development in Shasta County with a focus on primary care, prioritizing local students/practitioners who intend to practice in Shasta County for the long-term.
Grants will be directed to:
- Grow the workforce through scholarships to Shasta County students pursuing undergraduate, licensing, or advanced degrees in areas of primary care prioritizing students intending to practice in Shasta County after completing their education
- Support residency program participants to attend trainings, workshops, or related programs in fulfillment of their residency requirements, prioritizing participants intending to stay in Shasta County after completing their residency
- Other recruitment, retention, or talent acquisition initiatives and opportunities that align with the purpose of the fund, which may include (but not limited to) post-graduation scholarships (aka student loan repayment) as allowed by law
The Fund will be advised by community members in Shasta County who have a current or previous role or experience in primary care and/or medical workforce development.
