The Community Foundation of the North State announces its largest round of COVID-19 Relief grants to date, bringing the total amount distributed to $527,144. The COVID-19 Relief Fund was established by the Community Foundation in March 2020 to address the needs of the region’s most vulnerable residents.
Thanks to the generosity of individual community members, local businesses, and regional charitable foundations, these grants support the work of over 30 nonprofit service providers across Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama counties. “We are grateful to the kindness of our donors, whose contributions, when pooled together, are making a huge impact.” said Kerry Caranci, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Foundation of the North State.
Grants support a variety of tangible needs and essential services:
• Low-income families with children – improving options for distance learning by increasing the availability of e-books from libraries and internet access points in rural communities.
• At-risk individuals in congregant settings – expands safety measures and support for those in domestic violence, substance-abuse recovery, and homeless shelters.
• Workers – increases small business assistance, virtual job seeking and up-skilling opportunities in a shifting job market, to keep people employed.
“Our regional nonprofits have shared the overwhelming challenges they are experiencing as a result of the pandemic. Many are unable to raise money as they have in the past due to cancelled fundraising events, inability to sell tickets, or closing thrift stores. Others have had new business costs as they transition services online. And others are experiencing a big increase in demand for services and assistance,” said Megan Conn, Program Officer at the Community Foundation of the North State.
