The ACEs Resilience & Hope Fund of Shasta County is awarding grants for their spring cycle with a focus supporting those in our community most vulnerable to high ACE scores. Four area nonprofits were the recipients of cumulatively $118,400 in funds.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (also known as ACEs) are 10 common childhood traumas divided into three categories: abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction. These traumas can affect the brains and bodies of growing children and impact health as adults.
Shasta County’s ACE scores are double the state average with nearly 40% of the adults surveyed in Shasta County reporting four or more aces. The ACEs Resilience & Hope Fund aims to prevent and reduce the impact of ACEs in our community, which will ultimately promote long-lasting health and economic benefits to individuals, families, and our community at large.
With the funding support of First 5 Shasta and Shasta County Health & Human Services, the Community Foundation of the North State is pleased to announce grants to the following organizations:
FaithWorks Community Coalition
Kids’ Turn/Northern California Center for Family Awareness
Oliview Community Farm Building Project
“This year, the community-based grant review panel prioritized projects using the CDC’s evidence-based ACE prevention strategies, including teaching skills and connecting youth to caring adults and activities,” said Megan Conn, Program Officer for The Community Foundation. “They also focused on projects that balance numbers of participants with serving diverse populations to support the most vulnerable in our community. We are deeply grateful for our funding partners and their investment in working to break generational cycles of ACEs in Shasta County.”
