The Community Foundation announces a milestone for the NorCal Community Recovery Team (NorCal CRT) as a Carr Fire survivor in Old Shasta becomes the first to have her home rebuilt. The construction of the home is made possible by the NorCal CRT’s Construction Sub-Committee and their network of partners in the local construction industry, in addition to contributors to the Community Foundation’s Community Disaster Relief Fund. The home construction began in July of 2019, one year after the Carr Fire torched Shasta and Trinity counties.
“As stewards of donations to the Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, we are excited by the news of this milestone,” said Kerry Caranci, CEO of Shasta Regional Community Foundation. “Normally, a single home rebuild would cost as much as $200,000 but with donated materials, volunteer labor, etc. we completed this home using under $57,000 of cash funds. The generosity of in-kind donations from local vendors and contractors will allow us to rebuild many more homes. We are proud that the many donor dollars pooled into our Fund allow for the leveraging of resources, so dollars go further, and more survivors are assisted.”“This project could not have been completed without the selfless contribution of over 15 contractors and suppliers as well as many others that made financial contributions. What a wonderful community we live in!” says Don Ajamian, NorCal CRT member and General Contractor for this rebuild.A ribbon cutting celebration will take place after shelter in place orders are lifted.
