Redding, California (August 18th) – Shasta Regional Community Foundation, a pillar in the philanthropic community, announced today that after 20 years, they are changing their name to reflect the organization’s current growth and activities. Moving forward, the organization will be known as the Community Foundation of the North State. This change has been made to clarify the organization’s purpose and provide inclusivity to the communities they serve.
Chief Executive Officer Kerry Caranci explained, “We are honored by the spirit of generosity in our communities, which have resulted in deeper impact and an expansion of our geographical reach of services. To celebrate this growth and signal our Foundation’s aspirations, we are updating our name and branding.”
This year marks the organization’s twentieth anniversary and they are now active in Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties. Funds managed by the Community Foundation of the North State have grown every year since its creation in 1999. Over the twenty years, the Foundation has distributed more than $34 million dollars to local community members and projects like the Boles Fire rebuilding in Weed, the State Theatre in Red Bluff, and the Children’s Legacy Center in Redding.
To celebrate their new name and twenty years of impact, the Community Foundation of the North State will donate $15,000 to three local nonprofits. The organization is asking the community to help choose the three nonprofits by casting votes on their website at www.cfnorthstate.org/vote. Starting today, voters can pick their favorite nonprofit from each county (Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama). The winning nonprofits will be announced at 2 pm Friday, August 21st, on the Community Foundation of the North State Facebook page. Each of the three winning nonprofits will receive $5,000.
Kerry Caranci explains, “We had initially planned a social event to coincide with the announcement of our new name, but like many events this year, it was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Canceling our event led us to a new idea that we are thrilled to share. Instead of throwing a party, we will be awarding $5,000 each to three nonprofits in our service region, which will be chosen by a community vote on our newly updated website. We feel that this contest will showcase the heart of our nonprofit community and work that is possible due to our donors and the Community Foundation of the North State.”
The Community Foundation of the North State will officially begin using their new name and website on Wednesday, August 19th. There will be no break in service to fund holders, grantees, or grant applicants.
A press conference open to all media members will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, August 19th and will take place on the patio of the backside of the Community Foundation building.
